Spread 0119 – Darkness Embrace Me

January 2013

Acrylic paint, vintage and personal papers, black gesso, black gel pen, white Signo gel pen.

If I am honest I embrace my dark side. I welcome it. For darkness, and lightness bring balance and make me whole.

Also, would we appreciate the light as much if we didn’t know what darkness was like? =D

studying this, as I hold my darkness inside more often than not. There is such truth in your art. Makes you one incredible honest artist! :-) Here’s to balance!!!!!!

I like this spread a lot- deals with something that we often don’t want to see or feel but that dark side in each of us has much to teach us.

I like this very much …..

I can see by the depth and beauty of this piece that darkness becomes you.

8. Rachel Urista - January 28, 2013

There is so much truth to what you say! Beautiful work! I find that it is somehow easier to express or come to terms with some of the darkness through art journaling more than any other art form.

Your piece reminds me of a charred ruin. Strong and bold, Brian!

I hardly come back to comment again, but I did come to visit this one again for some reason and found all the light-full brilliant comments. Definitely great honesty, and definitely, like Rachel says, the journal format supports that degree of honesty. I agree with Seth that darkness becomes you. Great words here for you…sweet!

WOW! J’adore!

The words that come to mind for me in relation to the visual presence and power of this piece are “rich,” “revealing,” and “rewarding.” The yin/yang nature of embracing personal darkness is an acknowledgement that is ultimately artistically freeing!
